Roanoke: The Lost Colony

THESIS

The idea of settling the American coastline was put into action when Queen Elizabeth granted a charter for Roanoke Colony to Sir Walter Raleigh. Yet due to poor relations with the natives, negative geographical timing, and ineffective connections with the mother country from foreign wars, the colonists of this first-ever English American settlement were doomed for failure.

"Let us fight with our right hand, and civilize with our left, till the courage, the enterprise, and the ideas of the North have swept away the barbarism and treason of the South, and made of this country one goodly and free land."
-Horace James, Supt. of Roanoke Colony (1583)
