Roanoke Colony

With the first voyage to Roanoke, the first English settlement in the New World looked promising. Yet many adversities followed, ultimately causing the demise of the settlement.

First Voyages (1584-1585)

There were a total of three voyages to Roanoke Island; the first simply evaluating the land and its worth to return back, and the second less successful in establishing a colony.


The Lost Colony (1587)

During the last expedition of Roanoke Island, John White returns from England to find no settlers or traces of any battle, resulting in the name, the "Lost Colony".
